Employees Turn Out to Build Beds for Area Children

Jun 21, 2024

Twenty-four A.I.M. Mutual employees rolled up their sleeves and put their carpentry skills to work June 12, building ten new beds for local children.

Since 2011, A Bed for Every has enlisted the help of community and corporate organizations to meet a growing need for twin beds in Massachusetts households. The initiative grew from a single request from a teacher who noticed one of her students was exhausted every day. Since then, A Bed for Every Child has delivered 15,000 beds to families as part of the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless.

These beds are given to children on a wait list who lack proper sleeping arrangements in their home. When a family is struggling financially, having individual beds for every sibling can be a low priority. At the same time, studies show a good night’s sleep can tip the scale on a child’s wellbeing and their success at school.

Thanks to our team members who participated: Nina LaFauci, Sue Dowdie, Bonnie Battite, Jill Ennis, Roger Plante, Stacy Gendron, Lorraine Christopher, Michael Gibelli, Patricia Coutu, Alison Haley, Toni Lennan, Michelle Napoli, Meghan Powers, Maria Ierardi, and Vitjan Greco.

Also sanding and assembling were Lauren McMahan, Jen Green, Mark Melo, Ben Kounaves, Jordan Reynolds, Bianka Lazarus, Ethan Decker, Casey Machera, and Shannon McDonald.
